TAO represented at the Millennium Cup

Over 40 competitors from Chon-Ji TKD, Morningstar TKD and Oakridge TKD recently attended the Millennium Cup Friendship tournament hosted by Mr. Sergio Plaja and Millennium Taekwon-Do. Competitors from accross Ontario competed in patterns, sparring and high kick events. Many Master and Instructors were also in attendance with a special guest of honor, Grand Master Park Jong Soo. After the dust settled TAO members came away with a good number of trophies in all three events. Congratulations to Mr. Plaja and the staff at Millennium TKD for hosting such a professional and well organised event.

Solid showing for Ott’s TKD at Chang-Hun Championships

On November 5, 2011, Ott’s Taekwon-Do competed in the Chang Hun Championships held in Royersford, Pennsylvania. The tournament was hosted by Mr. Rob Benedetto of Dragon Star Martial Arts Academy. Over 180 students from  the ITF-USA, US-ITF and the ITF-TAO united for the day to compete together as one.   Ott’s Taekwon has been competing in this tournament for the past 8 years and this year was their best ever.  Over 25 students competed from Ott’s TKD and they brought home over 20 medals ranging from Bronze to Gold in both Patterns and Sparring.  Ott’s TKD represented especially well this year in Sparring winning over 10 Gold Medals in this division.  Congratulations to Mr. Benedetto for hosting yet another successful tournament and to everyone who competed.

TKD is back in Barrie

After a small break, classes were back to normal on October 3rd for the students of Morningstar Taekwon-Do in Barrie.  Under the guidance of 4th Dan Mr. Derek Morningstar, the Dojang will conduct classes on Mondays and Thursdays at Covenant Christian Church.  Congratulations Mr. Derek Morningstar and the students of Morningstar Taekwon-Do, Barrie

New Ranks in London

Nineteen Oakridge Taekwon-Do students from white belt to blue stripe recently attempted and were successful in their quest for new ranks.  The test was conducted by TAO Technical Director Mr. Mike Morningstar and assisted by Oakridge Taekwon-Do Head Instructor Mrs. Cathy Hadubiak.  This was the first promotion test held at the new location of Oakridge Taekwon-Do.  Congratulations on your promotions and good work promoting Taekwon-Do in the City of London.

OTFA 1st Annual Technical Conference

On September 24 & 25, 2011, the Original Taekwon-Do Federation of America conducted its first official event.  The Technical Conference was held at The Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada and it had participants from Arizona, California, New York, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon and Pennsylvania.  Master Vincent Affatigato and Mr. Cody Springsguth conducted the training sessions.  Master Affatigato’s sessions focused on dallyon, fundamental movements and patterns.  Mr. Springsguth’s sessions focused on the new hol sin sol syllabus for the organization and sparring.   In conjunction with the Technical Conference, Mr. Matthew Lusk and the Las Vegas Martial Arts Academy hosted a BBQ for all of the participants.   This was a wonderful opportunity for fellowship outside of the training sessions.

10th Annual Black Belt Seminar in Calgary

On Sunday October 2nd The Lightning Family Martial Arts Club held its 10th Annual Black Belt Training Seminar conducted by Mr. Chris Howes Vth Dan Black Belt. 35 LFMA Students Ranked from Red Stripe to 4th Degree Black Belt came together for a 3 hour training session with Mr. Howes. The Seminar focused on Pattern, Self Defence, Fundamental Techniques and Physical Fitness.  This year the Seminar was held at the clubs brand new location at #16 – 12110 40th Street SE.

This past Saturday,  October 1st 2011, Johnson’s Taekwon Do hosted a technical seminar taught by Mr. Mike Morningstar.  The seminar began with an intense warm-up followed by fundamental exercises, kicking drills, patterns, and finally self-defense. Saturday from 9am to 3:30pm was for yellow-stripe and above and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.   Saturday from 3:30pm-5pm was exclusively black-belt training which included critical breakdown of black belt patterns as well as some one on one instruction.

Special thanks to Mr. Morningstar and his students who came from Oakville to attend. We look forward to the next opportunity to have Mr. Morningstar share with us his extensive knowledge of Taekwon Do.

After 14 years in Calgary starting with only 8 students in a community Centre Lightning Family Martial Arts(LFMA), www.lightningtkd.com has moved into its brand new location at Bay 16 – 12110 40th Street SE Calgary.  LFMA, boasting 2200 Square feet of training on 2 training floors.  LFMA is ran by husband and wife Team Chris and Sonya Howes. See below for pictures of the new location on opening day.

OTFA 1st Annual Technical Conference

 Th e Original Taekwon-Do Federation of America (O.T.F.A.) would like to formally invite you to the 1st Annual Technical Conference.  The Technical Conference will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spaon September 24 & 25, 2011.  It will be instructed by Master Vincent Affatigato (VII Dan), Mr. Cody Springsguth (VI Dan), and Mr. Lee Benson (VI Dan). Th e technical conference is free of charge to all participants and it is open to all ITF style Dans and Gups. Th e conference will focus on Fundamental Movements, Dallyon, Patterns, Sparring and Self Defense.

O.T.F.A. secured a block of rooms at a discounted rate of $130.00 per night with a $10.00 resort fee plus tax for its participants. Individuals who will be attending need to contact the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa directly and indicate their affi liation.  During the event, breakfast will be provided courtesy of O.T.F.A., and on Saturday evening the Las Vegas Martial Arts Academy will be hosting a barbeque dinner for all participants.

Chon-Ji TKD offers self-defence workshop

Chon-ji Martial Arts is offering another self defence workshop designed for Taekwon-Do students.  The workshop will focus on defence against a grappler. Various submissions, ground reversals, take down, position control and take down avoidance will be covered.  The seminar will take place at Chon-ji  Wednesday, September 21st from 6 until 9pm.
There is no charge for TAO members, all others pay a minimum fee of $30. (Masters and Instructors…no charge)
