Annual Seminar in Philadelphia

On Saturday December 3rd, 120 instructors and students fromeight Dojangs from Pennsylvania and New Jersey gathered in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia for the Annual Technical Seminar conducted by ITF-TAO Technical Director Mr. Mike Morningstar

Mr. Sean Sutton and 5th Dan Mr. Fran Ott did a fantastic job as usual as the event hosts.The 5-hour training session included kicking drills, basic movements, physical conditioning, patterns from Chon-Ji to Se-Jong, and self defense.The highlight of the day was the self-defence portion where Mr. Morningstar demonstration various releases and controlling techniques using Mr. Sutton as his assistant.The students seemed to enjoy this part the most!

Terra Nova Taekwon-Do

Onward and upward for Terra Nova Taekwon-Do in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Having opened its doors in 2014 with just 5 students, Terra Nova Taekwon-Do now has just shy of 20, including the recent addition of two adults.

“Terra Nova is probably never going to have hundreds of students because our classes are in French, so I am really pleased with this level of growth. I also have new students lined up to begin training in January.” – Says Sabum Jeff Butt

Below, students pose with Mr. Butt after a recent class. Several students from Terra Nova (Newfoundland in Latin) look forward to participating in the ITF-TAO Newfoundland Championships hosted by Sabum Rick Winsor from Cabot Taekwon-Do on Saturday, as well as a colour belt grading on Sunday.

10th Annual Technical Seminar in London

On Saturday November 12th, Oakridge Taekwon-Do played host to their 10th Annual Technical Seminar at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.

There were 70 Instructors and students from London, Oakville, Ajax, and Borden in attendance. The seminar began with an intensive warm-up and moved right into basic movements, patterns, kicking drills and sparring for the Black Belts. Patterns Chon-Ji Tul to Ul-Ji Tul were covered.

The training was 5 hours in length, the first 3 hours for yellow belt and above and the last 2 hours for black belts only.

In honour of our founder, General Choi Hong Hi, we would like to take a moment and remember the day he was born and was set on a path destined to bring us the Original Taekwon-Do. It was on this day, November 9th, 1918 that General Choi was born, let us all remember the importance of this day.

Master Alvey Opens New Dojang

Master Dennis Alvey and 88 Dragons are pleased to announce the opening of their new location at 210 Napier St. Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Located in the heart of West Hamilton’s, Strathcona neighborhood, this is their largest dojang yet. Master Alvey is operating out of a private studio in the Korean United Church building and intends to cater to the families in the local area with an emphasis on parent and child classes.

This is an exciting venture, following the unfortunate closure of their previous Ancaster location. Master Alvey would like to encourage all former 88 Dragons students to get involved with their new school.

New Member in Western Canada

ITF-TAO would like to welcome Mr. Raju Gadtaula and the students of Himalayan Taekwon-Do in Edmonton, Canada as our latest member. Mr. Gadtuala is from Nepal and moved to Canada several years back. He is a certified 4th Dan Black Belt and will be operating his Dojang in the Ethiopian community center in Edmonton.

ITF-TAO Nicaragua Excels

On Sunday July 3rd ITF-TAO Nicaragua was Invited to participated in the 2nd annual Yon Gae School Taekwon-Do Championships in the town of Ticuantepe. ITF-TAO Nicaragua participated with 35 competitors from Lyon Force School under the guidance of Boosabumnim Marlon Hernadez, Do Academy under Guidance Sabomnim Pierson Gutierrez, and Mercede’s School under guidance Sabomnim Walmer Hernandez.

ITF-TAO Nicaragua won first place, winning 8 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze Medals.

CanAm Championships a Huge Success

June 30, 2016

On Saturday June 25th the City of Ottawa, Canada played host to the 2016 CanAm Championships.The tournament was hosted by Johnson’s Taekwon-Do and brought competitors and spectators from across Canada and the USA to the Capital of Canada for an exciting day of competition. Once again our special guest of honour was First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha from Glasgow. The cheers from the crowd were most notable whenever there was a final match between the USA and Canada, each country encouraging their country’s competitor.

The tournament started with an opening ceremony that was culminated with some inspirational words from FGMR as well and Mr. Johnson. The tournament was highlighted by a fiercely competitive Black Belt division, many of whom had international experience competing in the previous years ITF World Championships.

Sparring Championship in Japan

The 11th Taekwon-Do Sparring Championships were held on June 5th in Gifu-City, Japan. The Gifu Memorial Center was the venue for this very exciting competition with a high level of technical ability displayed by all.

Technical Seminar in Oakville

On Saturday June 4th, Morningstar Taekwon-Do held their annual Technical Seminar at Kings Christian Collegiate in Oakville.

There were 115 Instructors and students from Oakville, London, Trenton and Borden in attendance. The seminar began with an intensive warm-up and moved right into basic movements, patterns, step sparring, model sparring, self defence and free sparring.

The training was 5 hours in length, the first 3 hours for yellow belt and above and the last 2 hours for black belts only.
