On Saturday November 17, 2012  Ott’s TaeKwon-Do and the Hwa-Rang Warriors School conducted a Black Belt grading for three students. The grading was Conducted by Mr. Francis Ott and Mr. Sean H. Sutton who are both V Dan ITF-TAO. The Test was a tough four and half hours which included, a physical test, demonstration of all Gup and Dan patterns plus explanation of each technique. Each candidate also demonstrated step- sparring, self – defense, one on one sparring , two on one sparring and the correct way to takedown and face a multitude of attackers. The test was finally finished when the candidates performed all there breaks, which was a combined 55 pieces of wood.  Over fifty parents and fellow students attended a banquet in their honor.  They also received their new Black Belts, Do-Bok’s and a Tanto Sword.  The sword is symbol of their courage, leadership, sharpness, and strength.  We would like to congratulate Mr. Jerry Inga on receiving his 2^nd Dan. Congratulations also to Mr. Sig Mandell-Zayon and Mr. Joshua Infante on receiving their 1^st Dan Black Belt.  We hope that they will keep training and keep their passion for TaeKwon-Do alive.

On Saturday, November 17, 2012, Cabot Taekwon-Do was pleased to host its 11^th Annual Technical Seminar with Mr. Morningstar.  The morning session, which started at 9:30 and ran until 12:30, was for students of all ranks aged 12 years and under.  Students had already been lined up for several minutes before Mr. Morningstar’s arrival, anxious to get started.  The afternoon session, which began at 1:30 and ended at 5:00, was for students of all ranks aged 13 and over.  Both sessions started with an intense Morningstar-style warm-up.  Next, students worked on various kicking and punching drills, warming up the body to do fundamental movements, followed by patterns.  The seminar also included self-defence, step sparring and sparring.  As the afternoon session was for adults, more advanced kicking drills were included.  Students were left wondering if their legs were going to come off.  Cabot Taekwon-Do is very grateful to Mr. Morningstar for taking the time to travel to Newfoundland to conduct these technical seminars.  We are already looking forward to next year!

Mr. Pierson Solis and the students of ITF-TAO Nicaragua had a suprise visit from 6th Dan Mr. Sergio Plaja from Millennium Taekwon-Do in Orangeville.  Mr. Plaja was in Nicaragua visiting family and had mentioned that he would like to stop in and train with our members there.  Mr. Plaja is the host of the Millennium Cup tournament that ITF-TAO members have been supporting for the past few years.  We look forward to working together with Mr. Plaja in the near future as a member of ITF-TAO.

On September 22-23, Master Andrew K.H. Rhee welcomed Black Belt Students to the ITFA mid-September training.  The event was held at the same venue as the FGMR IIC earlier in the year, and hosted students from Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, with 10 clubs and Master Rhee’s clubs represented.

On the Saturday evening, seminar participants gathered for a Black Belt Dinner to network, catch up and forge new friendships.  It was nice to see everyone looking so smart, and to share some down time together.    The ITFA would like to thank Master Rhee for taking the time to pass on his knowledge from the Founder and FGMR.

Forty plus members from Chon-Ji TKD, Oakridge TKD, TKD Maximus and Morningstar Taekwon-Do recently participated in the Millennium Cup Friendship Tournament held in Orangeville, Ontario. The tournnament was hosted by Mr. Sergio Plaja and the students of Millennium Taekwon-Do. Congratulations to those who participated.

Nineteen Oakridge Taekwon-Do students from white belt to red belt recently attempted and were successful in their quest for new ranks. The test was conducted by Mr. Derek Morningstar IV Dan and assisted by Oakridge Taekwon-Do Head Instructor Mrs. Cathy Hadubiak. Congratulations on your promotions and good work promoting Taekwon-Do in the City of London.

ITF-TAO recently sent a shipment of new uniforms to support our members in Nicaragua.  Pictured is Mr. Pierson Adan Gutierrez Solis presenting the uniforms to his members.  We would like to put together another package of equipment so if you have any kicking sheilds or sparring gear that you would like to donate (new or used) please send it to the ITF-TAO head office and we will forward it on to Nicaragua.

This past Saturday Johnson’s Taekwon Do hosted a technical seminar taught by Mr. Mike Morningstar. The seminar began with an intense warm-up followed by fundamental exercises,kicking drills, patterns, and step sparring. Saturday from 9am to 3:30pm was for yellow-stripe and above and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The seminar was well attended by over 30 students. Special thanks to Mr. Morningstar and we look forward to the next opportunity to have him share with us his extensive knowledge of Taekwon Do

Lightning Family Martial Arts in Calgary, Alberta Canada held is 5th Annual Fall Black Belt Seminar for Red and Black Belt Students of Lightning Family Martial Arts (LFMA) . The Seminar was conducted by Mr. Chris Howes, 5th Degree Black Belt. The 3 hour training session touched on Patterns and Sparring and was a fantastic welcome back for the fall season.
