Master Alvey Opens New Dojang

Master Dennis Alvey and 88 Dragons are pleased to announce the opening of their new location at 210 Napier St. Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Located in the heart of West Hamilton’s, Strathcona neighborhood, this is their largest dojang yet. Master Alvey is operating out of a private studio in the Korean United Church building and intends to cater to the families in the local area with an emphasis on parent and child classes.

This is an exciting venture, following the unfortunate closure of their previous Ancaster location. Master Alvey would like to encourage all former 88 Dragons students to get involved with their new school.

New Member in Western Canada

ITF-TAO would like to welcome Mr. Raju Gadtaula and the students of Himalayan Taekwon-Do in Edmonton, Canada as our latest member. Mr. Gadtuala is from Nepal and moved to Canada several years back. He is a certified 4th Dan Black Belt and will be operating his Dojang in the Ethiopian community center in Edmonton.

ITF-TAO Nicaragua Excels

On Sunday July 3rd ITF-TAO Nicaragua was Invited to participated in the 2nd annual Yon Gae School Taekwon-Do Championships in the town of Ticuantepe. ITF-TAO Nicaragua participated with 35 competitors from Lyon Force School under the guidance of Boosabumnim Marlon Hernadez, Do Academy under Guidance Sabomnim Pierson Gutierrez, and Mercede’s School under guidance Sabomnim Walmer Hernandez.

ITF-TAO Nicaragua won first place, winning 8 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze Medals.

CanAm Championships a Huge Success

On Saturday June 25th the City of Ottawa, Canada played host to the 2016 CanAm Championships.The tournament was hosted by Johnson’s Taekwon-Do and brought competitors and spectators from across Canada and the USA to the Capital of Canada for an exciting day of competition. Once again our special guest of honour was First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha from Glasgow. The cheers from the crowd were most notable whenever there was a final match between the USA and Canada, each country encouraging their country’s competitor.

The tournament started with an opening ceremony that was culminated with some inspirational words from FGMR as well and Mr. Johnson. The tournament was highlighted by a fiercely competitive Black Belt division, many of whom had international experience competing in the previous years ITF World Championships.

Congratulations to all those involved.

ITF-TAO Welcomes Japan as Latest Member

From March 24-28, TAO Technical Director Mr. Mike Morningstar visited Gifu, Japan to conduct a Technical Seminar and attended the 16th Chubu Taekwon-Do Championships. A meeting was held with all members of ITF-Nippon and the decision was made for them to join ITF-TAO.

Under the guidance of Master Yanagi Itsuo and President Mr. Takahiko Tsuchida we look forward to working together to keep the Original Taekwon-Do of the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi alive in it’s purest form.

Welcome Masters, Instructors and students of ITF-Nippon.

2016-03-26 - ITF-TAO welcomes Japan

3rd ITF-TAO Umpire Course

Mr. Rick Winsor, Umpire Director, conducted the 3rd ITF-TAO Umpire “A” and “B” Tournament Officials Course at McCarthy’s Taekwon-Do in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland. There were 14 Black Belt attendees ranging from 1st to 4th Dan.

This was a full-day course which involved becoming familiar with the requirements of fulfilling the duties of a Head Official as well as a Center Referee. This was done through the review of course materials and hands-on practical application exercises allowing the students to perform these duties in a professional manner.

It was a very successful seminar and all participants will be awarded the designation of Umpire “A” or “B” certification.

FGMR Visits Nicaragua

On the weekend of February 5th, First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha conducted a technical seminar for the Instructors and students of ITF-TAO Nicaragua. The event was organized by ITF-TAO Nicaragua President 5th Dan Mr. Pierson Solis. FGMR was accompanied by Technical Director Mr. Mike Morningstar and Mr. Sean Sutton Vice President USA.

Keeping true to the teachings of the founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi, FGMR drilled the participants on correct sine wave and the proper application of techniques. By the end of the 4 hour training everyone was exhausted but motivated in their efforts to keep Chang Hun Taekwon-Do alive in it’s purist form. A promotion test was also held after the seminar.

Congratulations to all those who were successful in their quest for higher dan levels.

International Course with FGMR

Our 2nd International Instructors Course with First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha took place on January 29-31 in Oakville, Ontario with instructors and assistant instructors from across North America. Over the three days, First Grand Master Rhee covered training secrets, fundamental movements, patterns, counting and the proper way to command class as well as some interesting TKD historical stories.

On the Saturday evening FGMR was treated to a dinner with the Executive of ITF-TAO. After the IIC on Sunday a promotion test was held for candidates for 4th and 6th Dan.

9th Annual London Technical Seminar

On Saturday, November 7th, ITF-TAO Technical Director Mr. Mike Morningstar conducted a 4 hour technical seminar in London, Ontario. The event was hosted by Mrs. Cathy Hadubiak, head instructor of Oakridge Taekwon-Do and was attended by students from Morningstar TKD and Oakridge TKD. Sixty participants from yellow belt to 4th degree black belt were put to the test with a very challenging warm up. Mr. Morningstar covered fundamental movements, kicking drills, patterns, step sparring and self-defense. The last two hours of the day was devoted to black belt patterns. This was the 9th annual training workshop hosted in London.

Women’s Only Classes Offered in London

On October 6th of this year Oakridge Taekwon-Do began offering Women’s only classes.This is a small but dedicated group of women that trains three morning per week Mrs. Hadubiak and Oakridge Taekwon-Do in promoting the true teachings of the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi to the London Community.
